DACS is running a promotion to encourage visual artists to recommend Payback to a friend.

This is open to any visual artist and they do not need to be an existing claimant. As long as they refer a friend by the Payback deadline they will both be entered into a prize draw to each win £150 to spend at either Jackson’s Art Supplies or METROPRINT (Metro’s new online print service).

If you know of anyone who could benefit then please spread the word!
How to enter:
1. Recommend Payback to a friend and encourage them to make a claim.
2. Email both your name and your friend’s name to refer@dacs.org.uk Please state if you have a preference for METROPRINT or Jackson’s Art Supplies.
3. If you both submit a claim by Friday 9 September 2011, then you will both be automatically entered into the draw.

Payback is an annual distribution of money to which any artist can apply – if they have ever had their work reproduced in a book or magazine – see DACS website for full details of what books and magazines are eligible.

SLWA SUMMER EXHIBITION SHOWCASES LOCAL ARTISTS’ WORK

For two nights only on Fridays 8 and 15 July the work of South London Women Artists (SLWA) will be on show at Bespoke Space, Blackwater Court in East Dulwich. In an homage to the Royal Academy’s Summer Show SLWA are staging their own exhibition albeit on a more bijou scale. The SLWA Summer Show will be hung in traditional salon style to infuse the space with life and energy – an energy that will continue during the week as dance and yoga classes take place surrounded by the work.

There will be a launch event on Friday 8 July with talks by the participating artists about their work from a range of disciplines including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and mixed media. On Friday 15 July the end of show party will celebrate South London Women Artists and their achievements.

South London Women Artists aims to celebrate and promote female artists through its inspirational online portfolio at www.southlondonwomenartists.co.uk. It now has a membership of over 100 artists, a successful track record of exhibiting and a growing reputation for community projects with local schools.

The annual Stevens Architectural Glass Competition is open to students and glass artists who have completed their training within the last five years, judged by five leading glass artists.

The project for the Stevens Competition 2011 is to design a glass feature for the wall in the Macmillan Wellbeing and Therapy Room within the new UCLH Cancer Centre.

Maria’s Proposed Artwork is a 2m square back painted and mirrored panel of glass with a labyrinth design:
